Two recent trips to the Fancy Radish have convinced the Urban Atlas team that this is the go-to best option for Vegans and Vegetarians in and visiting Washington DC, and honestly a great option for everybody else. It is in fact a plant-based restaurant everybody should be happy with.
Opened in March 2018, from the 2018 James Beard Foundation Awards finalist behind Vedge (one of the best vegetarian or vegan restaurants in the country) in Philadelphia, Fancy Radish has debuted to rave reviews:
Washington Post - 3 Stars (out of 4) and a featured restaurant in the 2018 Fall Dining Guide: “…a roster of small plates that are so appealing, you forget you’re mostly eating plants.”
Michelin - Bib Gourmand: “While these dishes may be defined by what they lack-namely meat, cheese or butter-the experience here is all about what you're getting (not what you're missing). Razor-thin trumpet mushrooms are a clever stand-in for pasta, bathed with a silky broth; while spicy dan dan noodles are tossed with a tahini-based sauce for a creamy, savory bite.”

The restaurant employs a seasonal menu that leverages local produce. You can take advantage of 3 menu items that are cross-seasonal: fancy radishes, dan dan noodles, and rutabaga fondue. Recent standouts on the menu currently include a the Chioggia Beet Toast, which is a easy stand-in for an excellent lox on toast sandwich with a great smokey flavor, the Trumpet Mushrooms, which are served as a gourmet pasta and almost impossible to differentiate from, as well as the Chermoula Tofu, which combined a tofu with a delicious smokey eggplant puree/sauce.
