October 21 and 22, and October 27 and 28

Congressional Cemetery lives in the shadow of Arlington National Cemetery when it comes to Washington DC area cemeteries - but itself has been around almost as long country and as the main cemetery for Washington DC, has a deep history of its own. The 55,000 people buried in the cemetery include a Vice President and signer of the Declaration of Independence Elbridge Gerry, as well as one Supreme Court justice, six Cabinet members, 19 Senators and 71 Representatives (including a former Speaker of the House), veterans of every American war, John Phillip Sousa, as well as the first director of the FBI, J. Edgar Hoover.

A great way to see the cemetery in a seasonally appropriate way is Soul Strolls. The tours take place over four nights, October 20, 21, 27, 28. Hour-long tours depart every 15 minutes between 7 and 10 pm on Friday, and 6 and 10 pm on Saturday. Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase.

PUB Dread - The Haloween Pop-up Bar

October 1 through October 31

The team from the recently closed Game of Thrones PUB (Pop-Up Bar) has redone their space for Halloween; the three spaces have morphed into The Haunted Forest, which features blinking eyes, creepy creatures, and soundtracks that call back to classic horror moments, The Dollhouse featuring a special toy collection with dolls that seem to have minds of their own, and The Crypt features coffins, tombstones, and room for more to join the dead. The team at PUB Dread have also crafted drinks for the season: BRAINS! is served in a skull tiki mug and topped with a candy brain and David S. Pumpkins, a mix of rums, sherry, pumpkin, spice, and coconut. Expect lines, longer between 6 and 9 PM and on weekends.

Tuesday, October 24th, 9 PM

The High Heel Drag Queen Race is a DC October tradition. Since 1986, well dressed drag queens have been showing off their extravagant outfits and then racing down 17th street. It's definitely a celebratory event that is more beauty pageant than race definitely keep a good sense of humor. After the race, the party continues at the bars along 17th street.

Be sure to get there early - the route will definitely fill up, and people start arriving as early as 6 PM. Also, definitely take Metro to Dupont Circle - parking will be extremely difficult and driving to the area will be difficult as 17th Street will be closed between P and S streets.
