Saturday, February 17 and Sunday, February 18th, 9 AM to 5 PM.

February 14th is the birthday of the famous 19th century abolitionist and longtime Washington DC resident and "an example of somebody who's done an amazing job and is being recognized more and more" Frederick Douglass. To celebrate this, the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site, which occupies his former DC home, is holding an open house. Last year there were also additional activities at the Anacostia Arts Center such as several lectures and historical demonstrations.

$1 tours at historic Tudor Place

To celebrate George Washington's birthday, for the entire month of February, Tudor House is offering $1 tours (usually $10). Tudor Place is not the most well known DC site, but it has a strong place in history. Build by a granddaughter of Martha Washington, it was one of the United State's first National Historic Landmarks. Dr. William Thornton, architect of the first U.S. Capitol and a family friend, designed the grand neoclassical house, which was completed in 1816.  It is a great opportunity to see a historic urban estate as it would have looked 200 years ago, as it is one of the nation’s few historic urban estates retaining the majority of its original landscape.

Tudor Place, 644 31st St NW, Washington, DC 20007; the Tudor Place main gate is on 31st Street NW between Q and R Streets in Georgetown. Easiest transit option is the Georgetown-Union Station (yellow) line stops 3 blocks away.
